Communalism Combat
Dear
Madam / Sir,
PRESS STATEMENT
Apropos the news item entitled 'No 'carrot' conversions in
Maharashtra' by Shri Manoj Nair which appeared in the Sunday Mid-Day
of April 6.
We are happy to know that the Maharashtra State Home Minister Shri
Rajendra Darda nailed the propaganda lies of the BJP on the
conversions issue in the State Assembly on April 5. ' We did not
find a single case of coversion by force or by offering money in the
last few years' was his comments. We appreciate the pro-activeness
of the Maharashtra Government in ordering an enquiry by the Home
Ministry and exposing the falsehood preached by the BJP day in and
day out.
We are also equally surprised with the speed in which action was
taken against the authorities of Fr. Agnel Junior College in Vashi
who were accused by the Bajrang Dal activists of hurting the Hindu
sentiments by a mere question in one of its examination papers. On
the other hand we ask the State Government authorities what they
have done when the Togadias and Singhals while on their visits to
Mumbai /Maharashtra spewed venom on the minorities? It appears that
only the weak and the oppressed come under the purview of their
action.
On the issue of the incident on the Carmel of St Joseph School,
Malad we need to know what action was effectively taken both on ACP
M Kurne and Smt Parul Mehta the local BJP Councillor.
ACP Kurne's barging into the School and his uncouth behaviour
against the School Principal and the Teachers who were all women
seems to have gone unpunished. He continues in his present posting
and we doubt if he was reprimanded by the authorities for his
misdemeanours. And for the Municipal Councillor who spoke expletives
and aroused communal feelings by her false allegation of conversions
against the School besides leading a morcha on the school while it
was in session and disturbing the law and order has also gone
scotfree. Are they above the law?
We need answers to this Home Minister? We look upon you to take up
the iniatitive to punish the guilty in case of the School incident
in Malad.
You are kindly requested to give due publicity to this PRESS
STATEMENT in your esteemed newspaper.
Thanks for your support.
Best regards,
Dolphy D’souza
